Monday 7th March

Today we welcomed Quantum Theatre into school.  This morning Reception and KS1 watched the actors perform in role as two school children, they showed us how to write a story based on 'The Gruffalo'.  We helped by telling the two Taylors where to put full stops to split up a really long sentence and where to use connectives to join sentences together.  We were brilliant at thinking of adjectives to describe the characters in the story.

Afterwards Year 1 worked together to write our own class version of 'The Gruffalo'.  We worked hard to make sure we used lots of describing words, we managed to use some connectives to join our ideas together and we made sure we used punctuation.  Read our story here!

 Year 2

We have been learning what a play-script looks like and how to use one. We performed a play in groups to each other - we really enjoyed this.

In addition, we have written a short story based on the book 'The Tunnel' by Anthony Browne. We tried to remember to use capital letters, full stops and connectives in our sentences - just like we learnt when we watched the Quantum Theatre play.

 Year 5

Year 5 Started the week by reading and acting out a sci-fi play called Martian Mama. Some children then wrote their own alien plays. They then read a short sci -fi story and looked at characters and settings. After reading an extract from 'War of the Worlds' the children enjoyed writing their own description of an alien world. They finished the week by planning and writing their own sci-fi short stories.

Year 6

Year 6 have had great fun writing playscripts for our 'Fairytales with a Twist!' it all kicked off on Monday with a not so innocent Little Red Riding Hood obtaining a new grey fur coat courtesy of our timid wolf!  The children created their own twisted fairytale and then acted the plays out.  Check out some of our photos on our webpage.

Reception

Reception have been reading the fairy tale story 'Jack and the Beanstalk'! They have learnt the story using 'talk for writing' strategies. The children have amazed us by learning lots of phrases from the story such as "fee fi fo fum" as they acted out the story using masks and different props. The children made their own magic potions for the Giant and left him notes explaining what to do with them. It was fabulous independent writing!! Come and look at our floor book in Reception to see what fun we had during book week!
