Welcome to Year 6

Dear Parent/Guardians

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as a ‘new’ member of the Coppice Primary School team and provide an outline of what your children can expect and look forward to this year

The term ‘new’ is, perhaps, stretching a point as I have worked for Derbyshire for over 35 years, initially in and around Ilkeston and then South Normanton.

This year, in year 6, we will continue to work towards our ‘End of Key Stage 2’ curriculum – more information about SATS later as they are changing – and prepare your children for the transition from primary to secondary education.

All of the pupils will be following the normal literacy and numeracy strategies along with science, ICT, topic etc.  Please find below expected minimum homework requirements during this term.

Reading  - 3 x 15mins per week (anyday)

Maths     - 1 x  per week (Friday)

Spelling  - 1 set per week (Thursday)

Science – 1 piece per half term

Literacy – 1 piece per 2 weeks (learning log)

The ‘learning log’ is a piece of individual homework when your child may be imaginative, creative and resourceful in order to produce various pieces of work.

They will need PE or games kit on a Tuesday and Thursday.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at school if you wish to discuss any issues regarding your child.  Other than that, I look forward to meeting you, during October, at the parent/teacher discussions.

Yours sincerely
